Me
Hi! I'm Ismail

Even if I can't solve the world's problems, I strive to create a better world.

My Journey to Design World

Before my design journey, I had experience across telecommunication, tourism, and education industries at various positions.

In the first years of my career, I worked as a software design engineer where I learned how to define problems on complex systems, find solutions and test them working collaboratively with other teams.

After significant experiences in this area, I had a break in my career and dived into something completely different. To immerse myself in cultures I traveled around the world for a year. During this journey, I made a lot of observations and tried to ideate solutions to wicked problems.

Traveling helped me set aside my assumptions about the world and broadened my horizons for new challenges. I moved to the country where one of the most emphatic people lives. Thanks to living and teaching for three years in Japan, I increased my empathy skills and gained essential insights into people.

All these experiences brought me an opportunity in the tourism industry. I came up with an innovative idea and started a business with a creative team where we defined user needs thoroughly and designed sustainable travel packages filled with unique experiences. Developing comprehensive business strategies based on quantitative and qualitative research resulted in an ROI of 24% in our first year.

As an impact of the pandemic, tourism activities significantly declined. During the lockdown, I started developing apps and websites but they were not as satisfying as expected. Thus I started studying design thinking at Don Norman’s Interaction Design Foundation to gain a deeper understanding of human-computer interaction. To combine my new skills with my previous customer experience know-how, I started working in a full-service agency as a UX designer.

I have a passion for finding sustainable solutions to problems. I am eager to contribute my abilities to viable, desirable, and feasible designs. I would welcome the opportunity to bring my design skills supported by my diverse background, and creativity to design teams where I can also take my skills to the next level.

17 Goals for World's Wicked Problems

In 2015 United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to end the world's most wicked problems. I believe this is progress for the planet because defining problems is more difficult than solving them. An individual can't solve these problems but each person can contribute in some way to reduce its impacts. I believe, as designers, we need to get more responsibility. So I respect companies and individuals who took at least on of these goals as their mission.
